The couple arrived at the residential complex in a private cab at around 3:20 p.m. on June 3, IANS quoted insiders associated with the investigation as saying.

The man and the woman carrying bags entered the apartment building, while the cab driver remained outside.

Further, CCTV footage allegedly revealed that the pair used staircase to reach the flat and avoided the lift in the building.

It is being suspected that they spent about half an hour inside the premises. Also, they allegedly appeared to be wearing different clothes when leaving.

Paul was staying alone at her sister’s apartment. She earlier separated from her husband in 2022 after marital disputes. He currently resides in Bengaluru, as per IANS.

The matter came to light when the professor’s sister, Devarati Paul, got concerned when Debosmita did not answer the phone calls.

After reaching the apartment, she found out that it was locked from inside. Once she entered the flat, Devarati got shocked seeing Debosmita’s body lying in a pool of blood.

She immediately informed the police, with investigators stating that the victim had sustained a severe head injury caused by a heavy object, while there were injuries on her wrist as well.
